Welcome to TAIWANT2 Connect!

Ok so where I come from, I have been taught that it is polite in the simplest terms to hold open the door for a lady or anyone for that matter when you pass through a door before someone. Or you let someone pass before you when navigating dozens of scooters on the sidewalk, or make way for someone older or carrying infants and .. well stuff like that.

Why is it in Taiwan you hardly ever get any response in return. Not a thank you, a nod, a smile or most often not even a glance. People just walk on straight through without acknowledging your small act of basic manners.

I get this a lot, especially from students and seniors. This is starting to bother me a lot.
